Based in New Delhi and Jaipur, Niharika works on projects from around the country as a food and beverage photographer . She has worked for some of country’s biggest hotels, restaurants, airport lounges, food companies and online food portals. She also takes up editorial and other commercial projects such as packaging and advertising.
Brought up in Jaipur, the heritage city of Rajasthan, Niharika gained an understanding of the traditional aspects of Indian food from early childhood. Her curiosity towards food made her take active interest in other regional as well as continental and Asian cuisines. She fondly remembers helping her mother cook or observing her while whipping up tingling pickles and selecting fresh, gleaming veggies from the kitchen garden. Some of her favourite recipes come from her maternal grandmother. Along with her food lessons learnt throughout childhood, Niharika incorporates her own style of a rustic and fresh feel to photography.
She took on multiple culinary classes catering to various cuisines until she finally took training at The Lalit, Jaipur for a brief period to understand the technical aspects of food better. After completing her graduation in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, she moved on to pursue post-graduation in Journalism & Mass Communication from Xavier Institute of Communications, Mumbai. Niharika has worked as a Writer with The Indian Express and Eazydiner ( a food start-up ) before she decided to follow her passion for food and started with freelance food photography.
Her current pet project is a personal series ‘Desi and Videsi Naashta’ in which the gourmande envisions showcasing delicacies from Indian and continental breakfast spreads in specific settings.
When she is not found wielding her camera, Niharika loves to travel, explore, experiment with different cuisines and meet new people. She hopes to open a cozy café someday.
